I am a science educator, illustrator, storyteller, and naturalist obsessed with biomimicry, animal adaptations, mangrove swamps and live oak trees, mycoremediation, and silliness. I'm pretty sure that if we spent more time studying plants, animals, fungi, and bacteria, we could make our world and technology infinitely better, more efficient, less polluting, and more beautiful. I mean, seriously. Have you seen what slime molds can do? They're ba. Check them out. I spent a decade in the classroom, and am now back to school myself, getting a master's degree in biomimicry!

Okay! So, it's been YEARS, but I've started drawing again. Its amazing how quickly skill atrophies.... I feel like I'm starting all over from scratch. But that's okay, because at least I get to do something for me.
After teaching middle school in challenging neighborhoods for the past 6 years, I needed a break. Love my kids, and I will miss teaching, but I miss being able to be creative without limitations like, hey! Let's draw monsters for a genetics unit! Or, how should I make the rock cycle fun? I know, I'll write a RAP! Its fun to be able to set my own goal, completely free of restrictions.

I have been gone for so long.... I miss art. I miss drawing. I miss getting BETTER at it. I miss reading nice notes from the community and finding new favorite artists. The reason I'm not on much? I'm teaching. 8th grade science in the ghetto, to be exact. Most of the time, I really love it. My hope is that after this year (I'm working on my Master's) I will have more time to do what I want to do and grow, and can afford to spend less of my creativity on my kids-- though, they do deserve it.
